SHAKE-SPEARE'S TREASON presents a 400-year-old Mystery story like nothing you’ve ever heard before! Hank Whittemore, master story-teller, tells the tale of Shake-speare’s Sonnets as a gripping saga of murder, mistaken identity, hanging, treason, bastard royalty, love and betrayal! “Shake-speare” speaks to us directly in his own words in this explosive show that reveals the sonnets as a diary filled with high drama and political dynamite!

NEWS -
SHAKE-SPEARE'S TREASON was performed by Hank Whittemore at Concordia University in Portland Oregon on 16 April 2009 at Luther Hall, launching the annual Shakespeare Authorship Studies Conference led by Professor Daniel Wright.

Dr. Wright also arranged for Hank to give a talk at the famous Powell's Books in downtown Portland -- assisted by colleague Bill Boyle of The Shakespeare Adventure Page, in a dialogue with more than seventy interested individuals of all ages.

Hank and director Ted Story flew up to Ashland, Oregon, where Hank performed the show on 20 April 20, arranged by Earl Showerman of Jacksonville, at Carpenter Hall right next to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which must be one of the most wonderful places any theatre-lover could imagine.

Bill Varble of the Mail Tribune wrote up a terrific article about the show the day before the performance; and the next week he mentioned us again -- and we thank him for treating the show and its controversial message with intelligence and respect.

After seeing the show, Bill wrote:

"New York actor-writer Hank Whittemore presented "Shake-speare's Treason," an Oxfordian interpretation of the sonnets, Monday night at Carpenter Hall. His story is that the sonnets, those exquisite little mysteries, fall into place if you read them as being written by Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, to Henry Wriothesley, the third Earl of Southampton, and Queen Elizabeth.

"Whittemore argues that Oxford not only wrote the plays of Shakespeare, a claim most literary experts reject, but that Southampton is the "fair youth" and Elizabeth the "dark lady" of the sonnets, and Southampton de Vere's son by Elizabeth. Which is why the sonnets were suppressed when they were published in 1609. Stifle that dismissive chuckle and check it out in "The Monument," a 900-page analysis (see shakespearesmonument.com or Amazon.com)."

See our NEWS AND EVENTS page for Bill's preview of the show.

SHAKE-SPEARE'S TREASON was peformed by Hank Whittemore on 28 March 2009 at the Next Door Theater in Winchester MA as a benefit for Cheryl Eagan Donovan's documentary on Edward de Vere Earl of Oxford NOTHING IS TRUER THAN TRUTH.

See Hank Whittemore's Shakespeare Blog for Video Clips of that performance.

SHAKE-SPEARE’S TREASON was performed on 20 Nov. 2008 by Hank Whittemore at the Globe in London as part of the authorship lecture series inspired by Mark Rylance, the 2008 Tony Award winner Best Actor.

Two more shows were performed by Hank at the Bateman Auditorium of Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, on 21-22 Nov. 2008.

Whittemore takes us on a wild ride into the dramatic heart of a treasonous political document -- thinly disguised as universal and timeless poetry -- about royal blood and succession to the throne.

The year 2009 marks the 400th anniversary of the printing of the Sonnets in 1609, when the book abruptly vanished and went underground for more than a century until 1711, by which time the truth had been securely buried -- except for the existence of this book with its treasonous message!

Now this thrilling show finally lays the stencil of history over these mysterious poems to reveal their true story and the man who wrote them to be preserved for -- and read by -- "eyes not yet created" in posterity.

AUDIENCES WILL TALK ABOUT THIS ONE FOR A LONG TIME!
AND SO FAR THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN OVERWHELMING!

"Riveting, inspiring! ... Amazing, thought-provoking! ... The Sonnets finally make sense to me! ... More personal and exciting than I'd ever imagined!"
